Robert, as a Jewish American, navigated a life full of challenges brimming with diverse attainments and poignant moments. The absence of his father during his formative years allowed him to be responsible from a very early age. This feature of his life also imbued him with resilience and fortitude. From his early childhood, Robert was a dedicated and intellectual guy; he was also very determined to establish his medical career.

Robert Pickard went to Von Steuben High School in Chicago, where he took the Illinois State Scholarship exam and competition in 1959 and was awarded that scholarship. After finishing high school, he enrolled in Northwestern University to study medical school. He completed his graduation at Northwestern University and was appointed as an extern at Evanston Hospital. Robert joined the US Air Force as a 2nd Lt and headed to England as a Dispensary doctor. He then chose to go into a specialty program for otolaryngology as an ENT specialist, Robert dedicated his life to the services of others with expertise and compassion.

In his early 20s, Robert married Marjorie, and he has two daughters, Gabrielle and Annie. After spending 9 to 10 years with Robert, Marjorie left him. Their union after getting married was quite a happy affair, but they also faced many challenges of early marriage. This proved to be a reason that Marjorie left her husband and her two children after nearly a decade of marriage. After getting divorced from Marjorie, Robert remarried Susan, one of the individuals who helped him to trust again. Robert has a total of four daughters.
